The enclosed bill is for an additional drain assessment amount that was not included on your
original Winter 2025 tax bill.

Dear Property Owner,
You are receiving this notice because a drain assessment associated with your property was not
included on the original Winter 2025 tax bill that was mailed earlier this season.

Due to a technical issue that occurred during the final processing of the tax roll, these drain
assessments were unintentionally omitted from a portion of the bills. Once the issue was identified,
the Township worked with our software provider and legal counsel to determine the most accurate
and transparent way to correct the error.

As a result, a corrected bill for the drain assessment only is being issued for affected parcels.
Important information for taxpayers:
 This bill reflects only the drain assessment that was previously omitted from the original Winter
2025 tax bill.
 If you have already paid your Winter 2025 tax bill, please note that this corrected bill represents an
additional amount now due.
 No interest or penalty will be assessed by the Township due to the timing of this correction.
 Payment may be made locally to the Township Treasurer through March 1, 2026.
 Any unpaid balances remaining after March 1, 2026 will be transferred to the County, at which
time statutory interest and fees may apply in accordance with County policy.

We understand that receiving an additional bill can be unexpected, and we appreciate your patience
as we work to ensure assessments are billed accurately and fairly.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION & UPDATES
Due to the rising cost of postage, receipts will no longer be automatically mailed. If you would like a receipt mailed, please provide a self addressed stamped envelope with your payment. Receipts can also be emailed upon request. If your taxes are escrowed, a copy of your bill will be automatically sent to your mortgage holder.

2025 WINTER Tax Collection at the Township Office:
Deputy Treasurer will hold office hours every Friday—9:00 am to 5:00 pm starting December 5, 2025 through February 27, 2026. Except Friday, December 26, 2025 the MVT Office is closed for the holidays. Last day to pay WITHOUT penalty is Tuesday, February 17, 2026 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.  

Treasurer will hold office hours on the final day to pay Winter Taxes at the Township WITH penalties :
Monday, March 2, 2026 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, after this date all payments are to made at the Montcalm County Treasurer Office in Stanton.

New payment options available to make the Property Tax payment process easier for you:

1.  In-Person at Independent Bank – You can now pay your summer property taxes at either the Sand Lake or Howard City Independent Bank branch locations. Please be sure to bring a copy of your tax bill with you, as bank staff will not have access to your billing information.

2. Online with Debit or Credit Card – Taxes may also be paid online at https://bsaonline.com/?uid=1573
Have your tax bill in hand to have your parcel number available.  Please note that BS&A applies a 3% service charge to all debit and credit card payments. This fee is collected by BS&A and not the Township.

3. Dropbox at the township office - located on the front of the building.
